Politics and Fear
Thursday, April 14th, 2005On The Register, an antidote to some of the hysterical headlines in the tabloids about Kamel Bourgass, who was convicted yesterday of the murder of a policeman. Claims that Bourgass was part of an al-Qaeda terrorist campaign were used by both Tony Blair and Colin Powell to back the case for war against Iraq. Clearly Bourgass is a nasty piece of work, but he seems to be a lone nutter who downloaded recipies for poisons from the internet (the ricin recipe appears to come from the US) but failed to get any of them to work. Both Labour and Conservative politicians have tried to make political capital out of the case.
